Dick's Bluebird Trail, June 2006

As many of you know, Dick maintains bluebird boxes in 3 locations for the California Bluebird Recovery Program. We visit the nearly 50 boxes every week or two throughout the Spring breeding season. This is very gratifying as we see the bluebirds grow and eventually fledge to help the population recover. The first picture below shows a photograph of some babies in a box at the Village Country Club. The second is a picture of one of the boxes at Lafond Winery in one of the most beautiful locations. So pretty, in fact, that this formed the basis for one of Barbara's paintings. It is not always easy to capture photos of the birds flying in and out of the boxes, but in the bottom pictures, we were lucky enough to get some pictures of the tree swallows that also sometimes occupy the nestboxes.
